Ắt hẳn cái tên Colbie Caillat cách đây vài tháng hoàn toàn chỉ là vô danh. Nhưng giờ đây, nhắc đến tên cô gái 22 tuổi đến từ California này thì nhiều fan âm nhạc, đặc biệt những ai từng vào MySpace để kết bạn và nghe nhạc, thì sẽ không lạ lẫm gì với Colbie.

Tình cờ, Colbie được bạn bè hướng dẫn đăng ký tài khoản và đưa nhạc lên MySpace để giới thiệu cùng các thành viên khác của mạng này “nghe chơi”. Dần dà, số lượng người nghe nhạc của Colbie tăng lên chóng mặt với hơn 22 triệu lượt nghe. Chuyện gì đến đã đến, Colbie được Universal Republic đặt bút ký hợp đồng thu âm album đầu tay với cô.


Colbie Caillat bắt đầu với chuyện ca hát một cách nghiêm túc lúc 11 tuổi, sau khi nghe bản cover “Killing My Softly” của Lauryn Hill. Colbie nhớ lại: “Tôi nghĩ giọng hát của cô ấy rất đẹp, nó khiến tôi tôi có ý nghĩ bắt đầu với việc ca hát. Vì thế tôi đã tham gia một cuộc thi tài năng và dĩ nhiên lúc đó tôi chọn hát bài của Lauryn Hill”. Khi lớn lên, nhờ lời khuyên của cha, ông Ken Caillat, vốn là nhà sản xuất nhạc cho Fleetwood Mac, Colbie đã tập tành chơi nhạc cụ. Cô đã chọn cây guitar để hổ trợ cho việc ca hát cũng như sáng tác của mình. Colbie cho biết: “Bố tôi nói để nhận được tôn trọng và gắn bó với âm nhạc nhất thiết phải biết chơi nhạc cụ và sáng tác bài hát cho riêng mình”.



Ngày 17-07-2007, album đầu tay mang tên “Coco” được phát hành. Tên album cũng chính là cái tên khi còn nhỏ của Colbie Caillat. Ngay khi ra mắt, “Coco” đã đạt vị trí thứ 5 trên U.S. Billboard 200, một vị trí mơ ước của bất cứ ca sĩ nào khi lần đầu góp mặt. Cho tới ngày 17-10-2007, album đã bán được xấp xỉ 400000 bản và được công nhận là “album vàng” bởi RIAA. Nhận xét về album “Coco”, All Music Guide cho rằng: “Cô ấy hát về những điều giản dị thường nhật, không giả tạo, giai điệu cứ thế tuôn chảy nhưng lại rất quyến rũ”.

“Bubbly” là single đầu tiên của album “Coco”, phát hành trước đó vào ngày 10-06-2007. Thật bất ngờ khi đến giữa tháng 10-2007, “Bubbly” đã qua mặt cả đàn chị Britney Spears để xếp vị trí thứ 5 trên Billboard Hot 100 và giữ ngôi vị độc tôn trên Top 100 Singles nhạc số của iTunes khi hạ bệ rapper đình đám Soulja Boy.


Giờ đây cái tên Colbie Caillat chắc chắn không còn xa lạ trong làng nhạc. Cũng từ đây, kế hoạch lưu diễn của Colbie trở nên dày đặc qua khắp các nước trên thế giới như Anh, Đức, Úc, New Zealand…Nếu bạn đã từng một lần mơ ước được trở thành ca sĩ nổi tiếng thì Colbie Caillat sẽ là một điển hình sống động để chắp cánh cho ước mơ của bạn bay xa.
